About

Scoil Aislinn is a co-educational special school, catering primarily for children aged 4-18 years with autism and complex needs, under the patronage of the Cope Foundation.

Scoil Aislinn provides an individualised, holistic education encouraging each student to develop their own unique skills and talents, through a wide variety of pupil-centred learning activities.  Scoil Aislinn is ‘More than just a School’ in many ways, it is a safe place where students, families and staff join together to enhance the social, emotional and physical well-being of our 36 amazing students.

We are extremely lucky to be able to offer a range of facilities to compliment and extend our students’ holistic education.  As well as our six bright, spacious classrooms we can boast the following facilities;

School Bus

We are fortunate to have our own 14 seater school bus, this allows each class to participate in regular social outings.  During these social outings, students are given the opportunity to access local amenities, such as libraries, supermarkets, etc. Our school bus also helps us to participate in extra-curricular activities, such as horse riding.

Sensory Garden

Our students enjoy spending time in our spacious sensory garden, especially on a sunny day. There are raised beds, where students can plant bulbs, aromatic and tactile plants, where students can allow their senses to explore a variety of fragrances and textures and a bucket swing where students can sit and relax in nature.

In 2018, the kind people of Striker revamped our sensory garden, creating a new exciting environment for our students to explore.

Sensory Room

In 2018, the Scoil Aislinn Parents Association fundraised allowing us to overhaul our sensory room.  A new therapeutic, relaxing environment was created for our students to enjoy. Our sensory room is a wonderful space, providing a tailored sensory experience where students can relax, but also where the development of their fine motor skills, sensory awareness and social interactions are promoted.

Playground

Our playground was developed through funding from Electric Aid and the generosity of the family of a former student.  There are swings, slides, a see-saw, and climbing frame.  There is an outdoor blackboard where students can draw and have some fun, a graffiti wall and a permanent communication board.  The recent addition of artificial grass allows for access all year round.

OT Room

As well as fundraising for our sensory room, the Parents Association kindly provided funding for us to create a larger space for Occupational Therapy.  This includes a climbing wall, a trampoline and an OT swing.  The OT room is an ideal space for the children to explore their OT needs and to work alongside OT professionals.

Library

We have a library where our students can freely engage with picture books, reading books and a selection of interactive, educational toys.  Our senior students particularly enjoy the library as they can independently access this room and choose their reading material.

Halla

In Scoil Aislinn we are lucky to have a large sports hall. Each class uses the Halla for P.E lessons and also for group games and activities.  The Halla is also used for sensory circuits.
